At LearningRx, we often hear the question, “What is brain plasticity?” There have been several theories over the centuries at how the brain functions, and only with modern science and anatomy have we found how the brain stores and processes information. Brain plasticity is the process by which the brain reorganizes neural pathways when new information is learned and stored. Our brain training programs and education franchises are designed to maximize that plasticity and help you move from learning information to successfully storing and retaining knowledge.

At birth, humans have about 2,500 synapses in their brain, which transmit information across neurons. By the age of three, that number is up to approximately 15,000. As we age, weaker synapses are “pruned” and neurons are allowed to die. By continually learning, as well as training your brain how to learn more effectively, you can keep those synapses strong and those neurons alive, promoting plasticity and improving your brainpower. Synaptic pruning will happen regardless of how much you read or take in, and it is an important part of focusing your brainpower. Neurons that contain unimportant information can be allowed to die, while strong connections will grow even stronger.

LearningRx is dedicated to promoting brain plasticity, and through our brain training programs and franchises, we can help people unlock the unknown potential of that plasticity.
