Wake Up Your Brain in the Morning!

We’ve all had this experience at least once in our lives – you wake up in the morning and your brain feels a bit “foggy.” You may have woken from a deep sleep and you can’t seem to open your eyes until you’ve had that first cup of coffee, but if you still can’t seem to shake the fog, there are some things you can do to wake up your brain. At LearningRx, our mission is to make our brains stronger and more powerful, and our programs are designed to help students of all ages engage their cognitive skills in any situation. In this blog, we’ll give you some tips on waking your own brain up after a good night’s sleep.

No one likes it when someone turns on the overhead light right after you’ve woken up, and your response is likely to cover your eyes or dive under the cover. Instead of artificial light in the morning, open the blinds and let the sunshine into the room. If you keep the room dark or the curtains closed, your brain can’t wake up as easily, and chemicals such as serotonin and dopamine will stay at lower levels.

Get the Blood Pumping

Exercising in the morning might not sound like the most fun, but even five to 10 minutes of activity can get the blood pumping throughout your body and get your brain engaged. Put your workout clothes next to the bed before you go to sleep so you can slip them on, work out, and then take a shower.

Hit the Showers

Speaking of taking a shower, it can be a great way to wake yourself up in the morning. You might have to turn up the cold water a bit, but if you’re running late or you need to wake up quickly, a cold shower is perhaps the fastest way there.

Turn on the Tunes

Instead of listening to the news or morning talk radio, turn on some music that gets you moving in the morning. Music can make you feel happier, and the entire brain can be involved in following the beat, hearing the melody, and deciphering the lyrics.

Grab Some Grub

It’s beneficial to eat within an hour or two of waking up, and with the proper nutrients, your brain will have the fuel it needs to tackle that project at work or that test at school.
